JW Digital and SM Group Officially Launch Specialty Store Digitalization Initiative

After several months of preparation, system development, testing, and business collaboration, the Specialty Store Digitalization Initiative (Offline Store Digitalization Initiative) jointly driven by JW Digital and SM Retail Philippines has officially gone live. The initiative focuses on the digital upgrade of offline specialty stores, covering two key areas: POS digitalization and promotion digitalization. It aims to improve store operational efficiency, enhance the customer experience, and establish a unified digital foundation for the large-scale store migration ahead.

On August 6, 2026, the first store under the initiative — Toys Kingdom at Mall of Asia (MOA), Manila — officially went live. As the first store to implement the new solution in a live environment, the successful launch of Toys Kingdom MOA also marks the project’s transition from the earlier development and validation stage into large-scale deployment. Under the current plan, store migrations will continue from 2026 through 2027.

Advancing Digitalization Across Store Operations

As the retail market and customer needs continue to evolve, physical stores require not only more efficient and reliable checkout capabilities, but also more flexible marketing tools and faster business response.

On the POS side, the new system upgrades checkout and transaction processing capabilities, helping improve checkout efficiency and day-to-day store operations while reducing the complexity associated with legacy systems and manual processes. This also provides customers with a smoother and more reliable checkout experience.

On the promotion side, the system supports a wider range of flexible promotion mechanics, enabling business teams to configure and execute promotional activities more efficiently and quickly launch relevant offers based on different products, customer groups, and business scenarios.

This not only gives stores more operational and marketing options but also allows customers to enjoy a wider range of offers and a more varied shopping experience, creating more opportunities to strengthen customer engagement and encourage repeat purchases.

From First-Store Validation to Large-Scale Deployment

The launch of Toys Kingdom MOA is more than a single-store system migration. It is also an important starting point for the broader digitalization of SM Retail’s store network.

Under the current project plan, SM Retail plans to complete the digital migration of approximately 700 stores in phases between 2026 and 2027, covering multiple specialty retail brands and different store formats. Some stores already have confirmed go-live dates, while others will be scheduled based on POS hardware replacement requirements and actual operational conditions.

The next phase of deployment will cover several well-known retail brands, including Pet Express, Our Home, Adidas, Puma, Under Armour, Reebok, Nike, Dyson, FitFlop, and Disney Store. Implementation will be carried out in phases according to different brands, store environments, and hardware conditions, while gradually expanding the coverage of the digital solution and maintaining stable store operations.

Expanding Promotion Capabilities and Enhancing Customer Experience

The value of store digitalization is not limited to system and process upgrades but also extends to customer experience and business innovation.

With more flexible promotion capabilities, business teams can respond more quickly to market changes, launch more targeted offers and campaigns for different shopping scenarios, and shorten the cycle from promotion planning to in-store execution.

Customers can also enjoy a wider range of promotional offers and a smoother checkout experience during their shopping journey.

As POS, promotion, product, and membership capabilities become increasingly connected through digitalization, stores will also be better equipped to respond to business needs and create a foundation for more refined customer management and data-driven decision-making in the future.

Building a Sustainable and Scalable Foundation for Retail Digitalization

From the first store go-live to the phased rollout of approximately 700 stores in the future, this initiative is not simply a system upgrade, but an important part of SM Retail’s continued digitalization of offline store operations.

Throughout the project, JW Digital has worked closely with SM Retail and the relevant business and system teams, covering requirement alignment, system configuration, integration testing, user acceptance testing, training, and go-live support based on real store scenarios, to ensure that the new system meets actual business needs and can operate reliably.

As more stores complete their migration, JW Digital will continue to work with SM Retail to support system optimization and large-scale implementation, further improving store operational efficiency, promotion flexibility, customer experience, and cross-functional collaboration.

The successful go-live of Toys Kingdom MOA marks an important step toward building a more unified, efficient, and scalable digital operating model for SM Retail’s stores, while also providing a solid foundation for broader retail digital transformation in the future.
